3RD ANNUAL
JR. HACKATHON

For this year's Hackathon, we went all out! Despite being under lockdown, we wanted to give kids a platform to meet new friends while having fun at the same time! For many volunteers, this event was the only opportunity they had to network and enhance both technical and soft skills. Our sponsors and Supporters were more than happy to support our ideas and help raise $5000 for the Peel Learning Foundation. We also want to thank Willie Middlebrooks (NFL/CFL Cornerback) and Diana Martin (STEM Advisor and IB Chemistry Teacher) for giving a keynote speech. Our team had worked tirelessly for 4 months to plan this community focused event so we are incredibly happy to hear the positive feedback. We will see you at next year's Hackathon!

Coding is easy when you understand how each student learns

"Coding is AMAZING"

"I learned how to code and despite the fact that I don't like coding (oops), the hackathon actually made me interested in coding."

What did you learn from
the Hackathon?

Learning has nothing to do with age

"I learned that being in a leadership position can be fun! In the past, I've usually shied away from these sorts of roles, but today I realized that they're more fun than I previously thought!"

"Students teach and make you learn as well. I came into this with little to know knowledge of coding and teaching the students also allowed me to learn and correct the mistakes students might have made on their website..."

Inspiring Future Leaders

"I learned that being in a leadership position can be fun! In the past, I've usually shied away from these sorts of roles, but today I realized that they're more fun than I previously thought!"

"I learned that the leadership role is very important during the Hackathon. I learned time management and getting in some volunteering every day for the past couple of weeks. The biggest thing I learned is teamwork. As a team, we were able to organize and pull off this event..."

"...was an amazing experience! My mentor was very helpful and my team was very nice and cooperative. Even though this year's Hackathon was online, it was still really enjoyable for me. I am so glad I got the chance to take part in it!"

"...was amazing! I had a fun time meeting my mentor and team-mates, the coding challenge was really thought out and you had to put your mind to it and work with your other team members!"

#MyFirstHackathon...

"...Amazing, I had lots of fun collaborating with my team-mates. I had a great time with the quiz since it was a refresher. I learned that projects are not only coding, but also co-operating and giving empathy towards other's ideas."

"...was phenomenal! It was everything I love to do in a few hours of epic fun!! This was a wonderful experience and I'm so happy I got an option to learn another code language."
